Thursday 8th May marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe, or VE Day, to commemorate the sacrifices of combatants and the hardships of civilians during the Second World War, and celebrate the freedom, democracy and peace we’ve enjoyed in the past 80 years.
Kimberley aims to celebrate in style with a Proclamation and Flag Raising to commemorate those who served in the morning, then a beacon lighting event at the Chapel on the Hill to celebrate the end of the war. Come along and take part in the event.
The National Proclamation is at 08:00 at the War Memorial, followed by the raising of a flag in honour of those who served at 9am in the garden area on Main Street opposite the Library.
In the evening there will be music, a tribute to those who served and a beacon lighting at the Chapel on the Hill, from 8.30pm onwards.
Please come along to celebrate this special day. Everyone welcome!
