UPDATE – Cadent are to put in the final service on 15th December which is due to be complete by 2pm. They have also organised reinstatement once works are complete. However, due to the large amount of reinstatement that is required it may be that works are not fully reinstated until the end of 16th December.
An inspector is due onsite to ensure manual control is being carried out appropriately and to check the diversion signage to ensure it is correct, as well as the green timing of the signals on Greens Lane.

The traffic control has reduced the town centre to total chaos, Swingate is grid locked – this is totally unacceptable and unsafe – emergency vehicles would not be able to access Greens lane etc.
Think carefully about the road capacity of the area regarding further developments.
Council
Sarah, you’re right the town centre has been in chaos for the past 24 hours.
I believe the work is for an urgent gas repair and the gas company (Cadent) are permitted to carry out roadworks at short notice in an emergency. The only people they need to consult with are the Highways team at Notts County Council. Unfortunately, neither the town council or Broxtowe Borough Council have any control over road works and we only get notified at the last minute for urgent work.
The Town Council has expressed its frustration with yet another road closure. If you want to make your feelings known to our County Councillor, I suggest contacting Councillor Philip Owen at cllr.philip.owen@nottscc.gov.uk. He won’t be able to do anything about the work in progress but will at least be able to raise this issue on behalf of the residents.
